Spiritual Life

As you enter St. Basil's Lakemba complex, you are greeted by the colourful icons of Christ and the Saints, together with the peaceful chanting and warm scent of incense emanating from the small Orthodox chapel dedicated to St. Basil, the founder of homes for the aged in the 4th century.

St. Basil's enjoys the services of a full time Greek Orthodox priest, to care for the spiritual and pastoral needs of the residents. Residents may share in common worship and at the regular church services in the chapel, or listen as services are broadcast over the sound system. They can have their confessions heard and receive Holy Communion, either in the chapel or in their rooms.

Most moving of all is the opportunity to farewell members of the St. Basil's family on-site, during the beautiful Orthodox funerals in the chapel.
